There is an active group of ladies who meet to knit and crochet. They teach anyone (women, men, or young people) who wants to learn. They also take orders. Materials are donated, so all proceeds go to the church. You can learn more about this group on the last page of our website!
SINGING IN THE CHOIR
If you like to sing, you may join our Senior Choir at any time -- for the whole church year, or just for the holidays! Ruth Dwyer, our organist and choir director has lots of patience, and is very good at teaching us how to sing! We rehearse every Thursday, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church, and we are a very accepting group. The choir sings from September to June, and usually participates in an Advent Concert, as well.
There is also a Youth Choir. This group performs for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Youth Sunday, and for holidays. Ms. Dwyer organizes their rehearsals according to their very busy schedules!
The young people are very involved in all areas of church life. On the first Sunday of each month, they stay in church for the whole service so that they may take Communion with us. On the other Sundays of the month, they go downstairs after the reading of Scripture to attend Church School.
We encourage our youngsters to participate in services in a variety of ways. On any given Sunday, they may be ushering, reading scripture, singing, performing, or reciting poetry. Once confirmed, they become Associate Deacons, and are scheduled for serving communion.
Each June, our young people are awarded Attendance Certificates and pins, and our graduating high school seniors receive Hubert Williams Memorial Scholarship awards toward their future education.
On the first Friday of every month (excluding July and August), we gather at the church at 7 p.m. for our potluck supper. The name is a little misleading, though, as the entire meal is arranged by our Potluck Club! The cost is $7 per person, but first-time guests do not pay. After enjoying our meal, there is entertainment of one sort or another -- singing, playing games, watching an interesting video, or discussing something of interest. This is a good place to get to know our congregation. Won't you join us?
The women of our church meet at 7 p.m. on the first Monday evening of each month, at the church parsonage. After enjoying a light dinner together, they discuss their joys and concerns, and their plans to enhance the life of our church. Sometimes they watch an inspiring show, or share Bible reflections. All women of the church are welcome, and are encouraged to invite friends. You, too!
The men of our church also meet once each month, at 7:30 p.m. on the third Friday. They usually meet at the church, but sometimes will gather at a member's home. They fellowship together, and plan ways to help the church. The highlight of the year is their hosting of the February Potluck Supper, on the first Friday in February (depending on the weather). The men go all out, decorating the Fellowship Hall for Valentine's Day, and treating the ladies and guests to fine cuisine. This is an event you won't want to miss. All men are welcome in this group, and are invited to bring their friends.
